The time to strike at Ragnaros draws near. The battle to protect Mount Hyjal now rages in the depths of Ragnaros’s smoldering realm. As territory is gained by Azeroth’s defenders and they draw closer to the inner sanctums of the Firelands, a monumental task awaits. Ragnaros’s lair–Sulfuron Keep–is closely guarded by his most loyal servants, including the traitorous Druids of the Flame and their mysterious leader. Yet the brave heroes who have ventured into this ash-choked domain cannot afford to shy away from any danger. The outcome of the battles that lie ahead will determine the very survival of Azeroth.

Mostly just bug fixes, but it was enough to be a download and not a hot-fix, thus requiring a ToC change and once again causing add-ons to be out of date. Remember to hit “Load Out of Date Addons” when you log on.

Patch 4.1 will soon be upon us, and it’s high time we dig into the meat of this patch to digest the new content, features, and official patch notes. The rise of the Zandalari is happening soon on a realm near you, so make sure you’ve read up on the new level-85 Stranglethorn quest line, as well as the updated dungeons of Zul’Gurub and Zul’Aman — now suitable for five level-85 players with an average item level of 346 or higher. All-new epic gear, rare mounts, pets, and other interesting treasures await you, should you be able to rise to the challenge of the Zandalari!

The new trailer for WoW’s 4.1 Rise of the Zandalari patch was released today. I will say Blizz always makes some decent trailers for their major patches, take a look.

Happy Hachimas everyone! We celebrate this day by the mailing Hachi bits of gold in traditional envelopes. This is said to bring good luck and fortune for the rest of the year. Oh and there’s this little thing that no one observes called Easter going on. I really don’t know who in the world belongs to that faith. Hunters maybe?

Alright you may be scratching your head and asking yourself “what the hell am I looking at? That’s a standard UI.” You’re right, it mostly is. That’s the beauty of it. You don’t NEED addons to excel. They can help significantly but overreliance on addons can be as much of a crutch as not having any. Your personal needs may run the gamut from none at all to extreme customization.

You’ll notice immediately Mak uses a HUD UI. This can be extremely useful if you need to keep a closer eye on your health and energy bars than usual. There’s also the scrolling combat text, very useful if you need to watch specific procs as they come up. Less busy than Gralic’s.

Another example of heavy healer customization. Healers often have a lot to track and Mins has taken this to an extreme. I really would not recommend this degree of information output. Mins has tunnel vision issues and I’m sure this UI is partly to blame. Unless you’re leading, information output should be kept to a minimum.

Here is the opposite end of things. This is what a high-end healer’s UI looks like. The UI is so highly specialized that unless it’s set to flip around in other settings, it might be unwieldy. It’s very sleek and the result of A LOT of work. Don’t go into this expecting your UI to end up looking like this after 10 minutes of tinkering. Ask Gralic if you want help with anything being used.

Here is a case study in what NOT to do in terms of UI overlap. Because my screen is so small (laptop), a lot of it is highly bunched up and claustrophobic. Tooltips cover up the DoT timers from Quartz and DBM’s timers often cover my third bar (on Hachi, my third bar is heals, I have it set to fade out when in shadowform).
